Yamaha Outboard ECU Upgrade

Forum Main Crappie. Results 1 to 8 of 8. Thread: Yamaha f50 to 60 conversion. Yamaha f50 to 60 conversion. What's yalls thought on this.

I've been reading where if you pull the restricter plate out it adds to rpms. Also the only difference in the f50 vs f60 is this part an part of the ecu.

Announcement

All other parts an numbers are the exact same. There is a bunch of success story's out there on the Internet and nothing bad I can fine. Was wondering if anybody has tried this?? Never tried it, mine is carbed instead of injected or I would have.

Watched the videos and read a bunch on it. Some say you should have ECM reprogrammed. But if you take the baffle out and run it the ECM will make most of the needed adjustments on it's on. Just takes a little run time. I could not find anything that lead me to believe it would harm the motor in any way. You can increase RPMs on any motor by changing the prop.

Thread Starter. Only getting rpm now. I do need to get a better prop. My prop is a alumni prop 15pitch. Which is alittle dinged up but I never got over when it was brand new.

My boat is an xpress explorer series boat with 50hp Yamaha 4 stroke. If you increased your motor 10 HP you could carry a little more prop but don't know you could get full potential out of the 15 especially Aluminumn.

My setup is a I run a stainless 13, motor up one notch on transom. I can lift bow completely out of the water, run 32 on GPS and turn to rpm's which is just a little high for that motor. I really don't know what pitch props are avaliable for that motor but looks like you need something in the range.

Won't cost you a thing to remove that baffle and just see what if any gain you get. Your certain lye running at the bottom end of the RPM range. I agree with Cray on changing prop pitch. If ur engine is around the or so age don't pull the restrictor out.

The engine uses speed density to determine fuel and spark mapping. It looks at only throttle position sensor, temp sensor and rpms to look up fuel trim and spark advance from a hardcoated chart. It has no oxygen sensor or mass airflow sensor so cannot correct for he increased air flow. Too much air equals lean mixture whci increases combustion chamber temp. On a good hot day with it rnning hard one of the pistons will develop a hotspot and a hole will develop.JavaScript seems to be disabled in your browser.

You have to change the ECU, take out the restrictor plate in the air box, and change out the exahaust tube for a bigger one. Alot of messing around for a supposed 10hp increase. I have also heard that a couple folks have burned up their motors trying to do this as it may lean them out when you change the ECU and take out the restrictor plate, but fail to do the exhaust mods.

Word of caution. If your planning to run on the Kenai River. Kenai Park Rangers know what to look for with the 60hp modifications.

I have also been told by the Rangers themselves that if they find this, it's confiscation. No messing around. Comment Post Cancel.

I'm led to believe that the restrictor plate is the only difference between the 50hp and 60hp and that the ECU's have different part numbers but are interchangable on both engines. I havent seen anything about the exhaust sytems being any different? From what I have found you just remove the restrictor plate and you have a 60hp engine, with a lower rev limiter from the ECU so just put on a bigger prop to keep the revs under the limiter.JavaScript seems to be disabled in your browser.

The Zuma 50F and 50FX or the third generation of this family have been released since approximatelyand continues the YW50 model code. This is probably the generation that has made the biggest splash since its initial release.

Halul offshore new vessel

This is the generation of the 4-strokes and fuel injection systems. For many, this was a major upset, but for you, if you're planning to pick one up, or recently did pick one up, you probably saw the benefits that come from having a simple 4-stroke engine and avoid the problems and hassles that do come with 2-strokes.

The other benefit that comes with this generation is the updated style that sports aggressive sharp lines for a race inspired look. Read more.

Although the significant change for this generation as led to the loss of the mod benefits it had prior, it does catch up with the times and the norms of 4-stroke. But it also picks up the mod benefits of 4-strokes from the parts being produced and its availability. Although the Zuma 50F may not need significant modding, we have something for every kind of enthusiast.

To keep up with its race inspired style, go for some low-profile mirrors and lights, stiffen up or soften the rear suspension with an adjustable rear shock. For every ride and rider combination, the customization options are endless and we've got just what you need for that.

Filtered by:. Previous template Next. Yamaha F50 or T50 for backtrolling Kenai Any one have an opinion?

Just ordered my boat from Deweys and plan on using it primarly on the Kenai. Dan Deweys says backtrolling with a high thrust is hard to do because of the torque. Any one have any first hand knowledge here. Am I better off going with the standard Yamaha 50, will I get the performance I'm looking for? The boat is 20ft long 6 ft wide and I plan on usually having at least 5 people on board.

Will a bucket on a rope be able to create enough drag to hold me in the current? What about swoping out props when I no I will be backtrolling?

Lots of questions, I look forward to everyone's inputs. Tags: None. Kenai Boater. What about tilting up the motor so the thrust goes up a little? If you did this you would need to make sure you don't raise it too high other wise you won't get enough water to the water pump. Option 2 is to get a small 4 stroke kicker. If you buy one that has the same gas fitting you can run it off the same tank, just swap the hose back and forth. Just a couple of ideas for you. May be some one with more prop experience can talk about if you decrease the pitch or increase the pitch what that would do when you troll, but I think it would really monkey with your top end speed.

Comment Post Cancel. F50 will work fine for backtrolling, most everyone on the river running yamahas are running F If your running the T50 you'll probly need a bucket or a kicker motor
